Unair-MSU Research Collaboration : Investigating the Burden and Quality of Life of Caregivers of Children with Autism in Malaysia and Indonesia
This research aims to analyze the level of burden on caregivers related to the medical and non-medical management of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), in relation to the nutritional status of both children and caregivers. Data collection activities were conducted across 5 branches of SLB Autis Mutiara Hati: Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Krian, Candi, and Mojokerto.
This collaborative research between FKM Universitas Airlangga and Management and Science University involved 125 students, with 75 diagnosed with autism and 50 with other special needs (ADHD, speech delay, intellectual disabilities, and Down syndrome). The study engaged over 30 teachers, supported by more than 15 research assistants and professional enumerators.
The findings of this research aim to provide a deeper understanding of caregiver burden and form the basis for better intervention recommendations for children with ASD and their caregivers.
